This was posted in the topic below this one before but i agree if you are not running BPI/BPI+ you need to see this video and re-think about not running BPI/BPI+. Since modem hacking and sniffing DOCSIS is now mainstream it is important for all DOCSIS engineers to review there security procedures and make sure you are protecting your customers data and privacy. Depending on where your MSO is located (what country) you could face legal issues if you are not doing everything you can to protect your customers privacy!

I spoke at DC16 as well. I met Guy Martin in the speaker "green room" and he compiled his packet sniffer on my laptop for me. Very cool program. I wasn't able to attend his speech since it was during the same time as my own, but I heard it was very resourceful.

Not using BPI is a very bad idea... you don't need Guy's program to sniff unencrypted DOCSIS traffic... wireshark works just as well.
