Sr Engineer, CMTS Network
Spearpoint currently seeks a Senior Network Engineer for our Systmes Engineering Department for a DOCSIS 3.0 migration network optimization.

Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for implementation planning and capacity management. Work together with Engineers from the field to troubleshoot and resolve persistent and escalated issues. Issue Tech Bulletins and Field Service Alerts to notify field engineers of software and hardware bugs as well as associated impact, workaround, and fixes. Spearhead efforts for deployment and field trials of new types of technologies such as Packet Cable Multimedia (PCMM), IPDR, and DOCSIS 3.0. Provide proactive problem management through root cause analysis for high impact and systemic issues. Serve as an escalation point for Tier III operational support.

Hold vendors accountable to resolve systemic issues such as bugs and abnormally high failure rates. Establish operational best practices and standard operating procedures for deployment, support, break-fix, and management (monitoring, inventory, sparing, etc.). Interact with cross functional teams from Network Engineering and QA to review product requirements, functional specifications, and detailed designs.

Job Requirements:
Successful candidate will have at least 7 years of network engineering experience, preferably with a cable Multiple Service Operator (MSO) or other service provider. Experience with Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) equipment, specifically Cisco UBR10000 platforms desired. Thorough understanding of Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) and Hybrid Fiber Cable (HFC) plant. In-depth knowledge of RF technologies on a cable plant needed. Understanding of BGP and OSPF is required. Deep understanding of network management (SNMP, polling, security, etc.) and bandwidth capacity management. Technical writing skills related to installation and operations guides wanted. Travel to Okinawa Japan will be required for the duration of this task.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Quality of Service (QoS), multicast, Voice over IP (VoIP) and Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is desired at the CCNP level or equivalent. Optical knowledge (DWDM and SONET) is a plus especially as it relates to Scientific Atlanta, Tellabs and Cisco.

Education and Experience:
Extensive experience operating and optimizing DOCSIS 1.1 and 2.0 environments. Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent training, education and experience.
