Arris C4

ALCON,

We currently employ tw0(2) Arris C4's with Arris MTA's for our voice services over our RF Cable plant. Our central office switch is a DMS-500, I work in the Telecom dept on the switch side of things. We currently use Incognito provisioning for these MTA's. The IT Dept has all the control and visibility for the C4's and provisioning files.

We experience alot of outages(trouble tickest) due to RF Signal levels and T-3/T-4 timeouts, which the IT Dept says is not anything to worry about. We know this is a concern and a direct relational problem for our outages. Can anyone help me to understand the DOCSIS,CMTS protion of our delivery process to be able to help identify where the problem may be?. With that being said as well I do not have access to or know alot about our current setup in CMTS portion.

You will need to get the signal levels in the plant and see what the SNR is to see if you can relate any of the outages to RF plant problems. I would say your plant maintenance folks need to check the RF upstream SNR levels and make sure the noise floor is ok and that there is no laser clipping in the node.

That is the problem as we can relate to it. Our RF signal level windows seem to be to narrow, and with the changing of ouside temperatures it is like chasing ghosts. I am not sure what the optimun RF ranges are for these Arris MTA's or why our Cable dept chooses to continue to maintain these settings. We deploy both oudoor units (TTP204A-TP404A) and indoor units(TTM202P-TM504G) which each have different operating parameters. I will possibly need to question Arris for this answer.

I would like to see more MSO's who may deploy the same Arris equipment chime in with their setups and ways of operation. Again our structure here is broken up into three different depts responsible for the overall product delivery and each has their own interests and ideas on the correct operating environment. TeleCom-Voice delivery, IT-Broadband Services, Cable-RF cablevision. I would just like to get the optimum settings for all services to be desirable.

Thanks Slimjim100 for y our input and involvement, this forum is much needed and appreciated.
